Last night I watched the movie, Psycho.  My dad has been wanting me to watch this movie for so long and I finally got to it.  It’s even better because now I get to write about it. The movie is about a secretary named Marion Crane who stole $40,000 from her boss to give to her boyfriend so they would be able to run away. While she is on the run she gets dragged down by a very heavy rainstorm.  She drives on back roads to avoid the police but after a while is too exhausted to keep driving. Marion Crane then stops for the night at the Bates Motel and meets Norman Bates. She quickly learns that the Bates Motel has secrets of its own. This is the basic plot of the movie but doesn’t really explain anything about her time at the motel or else that would be a SPOILER.

I overall loved the movie.  I have watched a lot of Alfred Hitchcock movies and have enjoyed all of them.  This could be my new favorite. I know it may not be original because it’s the most famous scene, but the shower scene in the movie is a scene that lives up to the hype. My dad has always said that it is one of his favorite scenes from movies, and honestly, I may have to agree with him.  The shooting of the movie was very interesting. I looked up a little bit about the shooting behind the movie and found out some interesting things. I learned that Hitchcock didn’t use his usual expensive film crew and instead used the same film crew that he uses for his TV shows. The shots and filming in the movie aren’t the greatest compared to nowadays but for back when this was made it is beautiful. He uses a lot of wide panning shots to show something in the background or to show people’s surroundings.  The lighting is also pretty great in the movie, especially in the shower scene. I don’t want to give anything away but there are a lot of fast cuts and close-ups that make the movie more intense.

I would recommend this movie to just about everyone.  I know there are a lot of kids out there who will be like “why would I want to watch an old movie like this”  but this movie is amazing. I’ve grown out of the stage where I’ll only watch new movies and now I appreciate the old movies also.  I think if everybody was this way, anyone would love this movie. It’s intense and thrilling while also having a very exciting and captivating plot.  The same thing happened in this movie as with Halloween when I watched them both. I will admit I didn’t think I was going to be scared of watching either movie but I was in the end.  I’ve seen Alfred Hitchcock movies in the past but I would have to say that this might be my favorite, if not, top three. It is one of those movies that you just need to see. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes movies in general but also loves THRILLERS!!!
